No. 4 Bulldogs Head To Auburn For Final SEC Road Series Of 2016
May 12, 2016 | Baseball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – One last time for the 2016 regular season, the fourth-ranked Mississippi State baseball Bulldogs (34-14-1, 15-9 SEC) will hit the road for a three-game SEC series tilt, this time taking on the Auburn Tigers (22-27, 8-16 SEC).
The Friday-Saturday-Sunday series between the Bulldogs and the Tigers will begin with a 6 p.m. CT first pitch on Friday, May 13 on the SEC Network +. Saturday's contest will be nationally broadcasted on the SEC Network, with first pitch set for 3:30 p.m. Sunday's series finale will begin at 1 p.m., on the SEC Network +.
MSU spent last weekend within the friendly confines of Dudy Noble Field, earning its first SEC series sweep of the year against the Missouri Tigers. MSU rolled in game one, 8-2, before earning a pair of tightly-contested games (4-3 and 3-1) to finish out the weekend.
State is looking to finish its 2016 SEC road slate with its fifth road series win, a feat accomplished only one other time in school history. The 1997 Diamond Dawgs went a perfect 5-0 in its conference road series, defeating Kentucky, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and Arkansas on the road.
So far this season, MSU has captured road series against No. 2 Vanderbilt, No. 1 Florida, No. 7 LSU and Alabama.
Overall, the Bulldogs have won seven of their eight series this year, the first MSU program to do so since that 1997 squad that reached the College World Series.
Sitting at 15-9 in the conference, the Bulldogs are one game behind Texas A&M for first place in the SEC Western division standings and two games out of first place in the league overall.
The Tigers enter the weekend after dropping their series at Alabama last weekend, dropping the first two contests (6-2 and 4-3 [11]), but winning a Sunday showdown against the Tide, 8-1.
The Bulldogs own a 102-88-1 advantage in the series with Auburn, but the Tigers have a 50-36 edge in Auburn. Last year, the Tigers took two of three from the Maroon and White in Starkville. However, the last meeting in Auburn between the two squads ended in a Bulldog sweep in 2014.
