Men's Golf Caps Signing Class With In-State Standout Grant Motter

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Clay Homan wrapped his Mississippi State men's golf signing class by inking standout in-state product Grant Motter to a National Letter of Intent.
Motter has helped guide Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to a No. 2 ranking in the Bushnell Golfweek NJCAA Division II Coaches Poll. He most recently finished in a tie for second as MGCC won its ninth-straight Region 23 crown and earned a trip to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.
The Wiggins, Mississippi, native also earned all-state honors from the Mississippi Association of 
Community & Junior Colleges (MACJC) after earning medalist honors in leading the Bulldogs to the team crown. He ran away with the state title at Shiloh Ridge AC by carding back-to-back 68s to finish with an 8-under-par 136.
"Grant has proven himself to be one of the top players in the junior college ranks," Homan said. "He is a confident player who will give our team a boost in the top of the lineup."
Motter placed in the Top 10 in all 10 events he played in this season, claiming six finishes in the Top 2 and three wins.
His stellar sophomore campaign follows a 2014-15 season that saw him win five tournaments en route to to claiming NJCAA Division II First Team All-America and All-Central Region accolades.
The former Oak Grove High School standout was also named to the 2015 All-Nicklaus Team, honoring the nation's best college players among all divisions, after finishing in a tie for second with an 8-under 280 at the NJCAA National Championship in Scottsboro, Alabama.
That second-place national finish followed three-straight victories, including the MACJC Conference title and NJCAA Region 23 crown.
Motter's outstanding freshman season earned him the Hubert Tucker Award, which goes to the MACJC player with the year's lowest scoring average.
Motter and fellow spring signee Tanapat Pichaikool join Griffin Agent (Madison, Mississippi) and Garrett Johnson (Kimberly, Alabama) in comprising MSU's 2016 signing class.
"Grant's signing caps an outstanding recruiting class for us," Homan said. "There is a lot of potential with this group and big things ahead for our team."
