MSU Continues Spring Slate In Texas Against TCU
April 08, 2016 | Soccer
STARKVILLE, Miss. – With five exhibitions under its belt, the Mississippi State soccer team travels to Texas as the Bulldogs take part in a friendly against Texas Christian University on Saturday in Frisco, Texas.
The exhibition is slated for 2 p.m. CT, as the two teams will play at the Toyota Soccer Center. The exhibition will consist of two 45-minute periods, with a short intermission between.
“This is one of the trips we've been looking forward to all spring since setting up the exhibition,” head coach Aaron Gordon said. “We have a good portion of players on our current roster that are from Texas, so it will be fun for them to get back and it'll give their families a chance to see their daughter play. TCU provides us the chance to play against a power five school outside of the SEC, which will benefit us greatly in the long run. All in all this will be a fun trip for our players and we're exited for this weekend.”
After the conclusion of Saturday's match, the Bulldogs will attend the MLS match between FC Dallas and San Jose at 8 p.m. CT.
History has pitted the Bulldogs and Horned Frogs against one another three times, with the last meeting coming in 2002. TCU holds a 2-1 record against MSU all-time.
Last Sunday, MSU earned two scoreless draws against Memphis and UAB in Birmingham to continue the spring slate. Saturday's friendly will mark the fourth-consecutive road contest for State.
The Bulldogs turned in a 5-10-3 record last season to secure one of its best seasons in recent history. The three conference wins in 2015 were the most since 2011, as the Bulldogs just missed making their first appearance in the SEC Tournament since 2004.
State returns 19 players who made at least one start from last season's squad. Points (10) and assists (4) leader Mallory Eubanks will headline the returnees, followed by co-goal (4) leaders Kennadi Carbin and Kiley Martens.
After Saturday's exhibition, the Maroon and White return home to cap the spring season as the Bulldogs host Samford at 7 p.m. CT.
