STARKVILLE, Miss. – Aaron Gordon and the Mississippi State soccer team will hold its fourth annual College ID Camp this Saturday, which will kickoff the 2016 slate of soccer camps.
Players can visit www.hailstate.com/camps to view the full summer schedule. For more information on any MSU soccer camp, contact assistant coach Phil Casella at pcasella@athletics.msstate.edu.
Saturday's camp runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is open to girls in grades 7-12. Cost, which includes lunch, is $150 per player. Under the guidance of Gordon and assistants Ashley Gordon and Casella, campers will participate in three sessions that focus on the technical and tactical aspects of the game as well as speed and agility.
Following Saturday's camp, MSU begins its summer camp schedule with the Little Dawg, Half Day and Full Day Camps on June 6-9. The Bulldogs will hold their Striker/Keeper Camp on June 15-17, before hosting the High School Team Camps July 19-21. The coaching staff will wrap up the summer slate with the Elite College Prep Camps July 22-24.
The Little Dawg Camp, which costs $120 and runs from 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. each day, is open to boys and girls ages 4-6 and is designed to instruct young players in agility, coordination and individual skills in a fun setting.
The Half Day and Full Day camps focus on individual skills, team tactics and fundamentals in a fun, competitive environment. Both camps are open to ages 7-14, and the Half Day Camp ($150) runs to noon each day while the Full Day Camp ($250) goes to 3 p.m.
The Striker/Keeper Camp, one of the most popular of the Bulldogs' summer camp offerings, is open to boys and girls ages 10-18 and costs $350 for residents and $300 for commuters.
Strikers will work on ball striking, finishing techniques, 1v1 dribbling and movement off the ball to create scoring opportunities. Goalkeepers will focus on shot stopping, handling, diving, crosses, breakaways and positioning. Each afternoon the two will come together to create game-like environments.
The boys and girls team camps offer high school squads the opportunity to begin preparations for the season. For $275, teams will have the chance to identify team leaders, work with younger players and experiment using different systems of play without the pressure of the season looming.
The Elite College Prep Camp costs $350 for residential and $300 for commuters and exposes players to the demands of a college soccer student-athlete. It is designed to develop technical and tactical abilities through functional and position-specific training while exposing campers to the speed and agility training used by the Bulldog soccer team.
