April 02, 2016 | Track & Field
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Breaking the second school record at the Florida Relays, the Mississippi State men's sprint medley relay recorded the top time in the event Saturday.
The relay team comprised of Rodrigo Rocha, Juston Waters, Alfred Larry and Brandon McBride broke the record after running an impressive showing of 3:13.12 to finish first. The time was also a facility and meet record.
“I have been part of MSU Track and Field for the better part of 26 years, and I have never seen both men and women combined have a better meet than this weekend,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “These men and women have learned that heart and mind beat out muscle and mouth in everything they do."
Capturing first in the women's distance medley relay, Ffion Price, Shayla Luckett, Madison Milhoan and Marta Freitas recorded a time of 11:11.14, the second-best time in program history.
The men's 4x400m relay ran a season-best 3:04.99 to finish second to host Florida. Vince Castillo, Juston Waters, Alfred Larry and Rasheed Tatham competed in the event for the Bulldogs.
The foursome of Erica Bougard, Tiffany Flynn, Leah Lott and Zaria Tillman started the day with a second-place finish in the shuttle hurdle after posting a time of 55.16. This was the first shuttle hurdle MSU has competed in this season.
Another second-place finish was brought home by the men's 4x200m relay comprised of Lawrence Crawford, Charles Taylor, Rasheed Tatham and Philip Smith. The team clocked a time of 1:22.57.
The men's 4x100m relay brought home a Top 5 finish after recording a time of 40.04 to finish fifth. Rodrigo Rocha, Philip Smith, Lawrence Crawford and Charles Taylor made up the relay team.
Over the course of the weekend, MSU finished first in eight different events and had 12 athletes record personal-bests.
MSU will now turn attention toward the LSU Invite April 9. This will be the Bulldogs first of two outdoor trips to Baton Rouge.
