
Track & Field Shines On Day Two Of Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Etching his name into the Mississippi State record book once again, Brandon McBride broke the 1500m run record Friday night at the Florida Relays.
Competing in the 1500m run for only the second time in his collegiate career, McBride recorded a time of 3:41.92 to finish fourth in the event. This is McBride's second outdoor record to acquire. During his sophomore campaign, McBride recorded a time of 1:45.35 to capture the 800m run program record.
Running in the event alongside McBride was Andrew Monaghan, who recorded a personal-best 3:48.31, placing 19th, and Caden Foos, who also ran a personal-best 3:56.54 to finish 38th.
“I'm so proud of the level of work our athletes put in today,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “We got quality wins, saw records break and earned numerous personal-bests. Today was a good day. I think we will only see more success from these athletes.”
McBride was not the only MSU athlete running into the record books Friday. To clinch first in the women's 1500m run, Marta Freitas clocked a personal-best 4:12.91, the third-fastest time in program history. As of today, Freitas' time leads the nation. This was Freitas first time to run the event this season.
Immediately behind Freitas was teammate Ffion Price in second. Price also ran a personal-best time of 4:17.94, which now ranks as the fourth-fastest time in the event. Her time in the event lands her currently in the Top 5 of the nation.
In the final track event of the night the Bulldogs finished in first and second in the 3000m steeplechase. Cornelia Griesche ran the nation's current top time in the event with a time of 10:02.56 to win. Placing second with the freshman school record was Antonia Hehr posting a time of 10:21.07. Hehr's time places her in the Top 5 of the nation currently.
Erica Bougard tied her personal-best and MSU school record in the high jump to finish first. The senior cleared 6-02 in the event. Currently, Bougard's height leads the nation in the high jump. Placing third was Logan Boss with a season-best clearance of 5-08.00
Tying her personal-best 52.74, which is the third-best time in school history, Shayla Luckett finished fifth in the 400m dash. Also in the event finishing 17th was Kimari Martin with a personal-best time of 53.70. Martin's time is the fifth-best time in program history.
In the men's 400m dash, Alfred Larry placed third after recording a time of 45.94, while teammate Juston Waters recorded a time of 46.89 to finish seventh.
Capturing ninth place, Rodrigo Rocha posted a personal-best 10.37 in the 100m dash. Rocha went on to record another personal-best in the 200m dash. He placed sixth with a time of 20.77.
Recording a season best 13.99, Ro'Derick Spears finished eighth in the 110m hurdles.
Distance runner Madison Milhoan posted a personal-best in the 800m run clocking a time of 2:11.66 finishing 24th in the event.
Seth Peace cleared 6-11.00 in the high jump, his best clearance in the event this season. He finished third overall.
Bringing home a sixth-place finish in the field, Leah Lott had a season-best 19-02.50 in the long jump.
The final day of the Florida Relays will begin for MSU at 11 a.m. CT with the women's shuttle hurdle.
