TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – On an unseasonably cool night in Tuscaloosa, the Mississippi State soccer team concluded its first exhibition of the weekend before traveling to Birmingham on Sunday to continue the spring slate.
Friday's contest consisted of three 30-minute periods, with an intermission between each. The Bulldogs used most of its roster against the Crimson Tide, as 18 players checked in to see playing time.
“After the long layoff we are glad to get in today's exhibition despite the weather,” head coach Aaron Gordon said. “We had the chance to use a lot of different looks out there and see some fresh faces. We're going to take today's contest and use it to develop and get better as a unit.”
Jen Huckaby picked up her first goal of the spring after a beautiful shot that found the back of the net in Friday's second period of exhibition play. The score was spearheaded by Kennadi Carbin who sent the ball from right to left for Huckaby's goal.
MSU used both goalies on Friday, with Courtney Tompkins getting the start and the majority of playing time, while Rhylee DeCrane entered in the third period at goal.
With a 2-1 record this spring, the Bulldogs travel to Birmingham this Sunday to face host UAB and Memphis at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. CT. MSU defeated Memphis 2-1 in a fall exhibition last year at home.
