April 16, 2016 | Women's Golf
Birmingham, Ala. – After a solid first round on Friday the Mississippi State women's golf team was again led by junior Izel Pieters, who helped the team close out the second round tied for 10th at the SEC Championships at Greystone.
The Bulldogs tallied a 303, two strokes better than Friday's opening round.
Firing par for her first four holes, Pieters bogeyed No. 5, only to comeback with a birdie on No. 6 to end her fist nine 2-over.
She then birded her second hole after the turn en route to a 74 overall, ending the day T20.
“Today went a little better than yesterday for me, not score-wise but just golf wise. I managed to hit the ball decent, the way I was hoping to,” Pieters said. “I had a few amazing pars that I was really happy about. I felt like overall I played good golf, and I look forward to seeing what the final round has in store Sunday.”
Jessica Peng tied her first-round total with a 75 after shooting par on the final nine holes of the day. She finished T24.
Bianca Theron and Ji Eun Baik shot 76 and 77, respectively.
Leading the team in birdies Saturday was Katie Holt with three. Starting out rough, she corrected after she made the turn to the back nine and shaved six strokes from her front nine total to finish the day with a 78.
MSU will be back in action for the final round of the SEC Championship Sunday at 8:00 CT.
