MSU Battles Behind Peng In Final Round Of SEC Championships
April 18, 2016 | Women's Golf
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Teeing off on hole 10 again, the Mississippi State women's golf team started the day off hot.
Paced by veteran junior Jessica Peng, MSU places 12th place after posting a 306 scorecard on the final day of the SEC Championship at Greystone.
“Comparing today from yesterday, I tried to keep all of my second shots below the hole instead of past, because it is really tough on this course to have a downhill path with the ball,” Peng said. “I think I did pretty good today. I had a lot of good up and down areas, rather than shooting in the hard part of the course.”
Peng came out and fired par on the first nine holes before moving to the final nine, where she shot three birdies in a four holes en route to finishing 20th overall.
The two-day team leader Izel Pieters finished 3-over par today with a 77.
Tying her second round total, Katie Holt concludes with a 78 on the final round.
Bianca Theron had a difficult first nine, but was able to shave off five strokes on her final nine holes helping her fire a 79 on the day.
Shooting three birdies in a row on the first nine holes was Ji Eun Baik. She would go on to tally a team high five birdies as she totaled an 80.
The Bulldogs have now wrapped up their scheduled season, and await to hear on their fate in the NCAA Regionals.
