STARKVILLE, Miss. – In the final spring exhibition of the season, the Mississippi State soccer team earned a 1-1 draw against Samford in front of a Super Bulldog Weekend crowd on Friday night.
“We finished strong I thought in the second half and competed well against a tough opponent, “head coach Aaron Gordon said. “We've had a great spring season this year and I look forward to taking the lessons we've learned over the last month or so and using them to improve for next season. We have a young and eager group of players and it's going to be fun watching them in the fall.”
Trailing 1-0 in the second half, MSU got onto the scoreboard after Morgan Mills scored in the 66th minute. The goal for Mills was her first of the spring slate.
Between the posts, Tanya de Souza earned the start as she saw her first action since March 5. De Souza allowed only one goal on 10 shots.
State outshot the Bulldogs of Samford 9-2 in the first half and 16-10 for the contest.
Saturday's draw gave the Maroon and White a 2-2-3 record for the spring slate.
