MSU Returns To SEC Country To Play In The Tiger Invitational
March 05, 2016 | Men's Golf
STARKVILLE, Miss. – After spending last week on the Pacific Coast, the Mississippi State men's golf team shifts its attention to the state of Alabama as it will compete in the Tiger Invitational.
Hosted by SEC rival Auburn, the three-day, 54-hole event tees off Sunday at 9:15 a.m. with 18 holes at the par-72, 7,149-yard Grand National Lake Course in Opelika, Ala..
The Bulldogs are no stranger to this event, as this is their fourth-straight season competing in the Tiger Invitational. In 2013, former Bulldog great Chad Ramey led the Bulldogs to the tourney crown.
“We are looking to get back on track this week at Auburn and put up some good numbers,” MSU coach Clay Homan said. “I think we are doing some good things as far as our ball striking goes, and this is a ball-strikers course.”
The 18-team field includes Georgia State, Jacksonville State, Kansas State, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Southeastern Louisiana, South Alabama, Troy, Tulsa, UNGC, VCU, Auburn's B-team and host Auburn.
MSU will use the same lineup of Taylor Grant, Jacob Ross, Ben Wood, Ross Bell and Ben Follett-Smith that competed at the Southwestern Jones Invitational last week in California.
“Our focus will be to have good course management and put ourselves in score-able positions,” Homan said.
State will have the week off following its trip to Opelika before heading to San Antonio, Texas, for the UTSA/Lone Star Invitational, which tees off on Monday, March 21.
