MSU Finishes First Spring Tournament In Top 15

ORLANDO, Fla. – After days of battling heavy wind and low temperatures, the Mississippi State women's golf team ended the first tournament of the spring season 14th overall with a 913 scorecard, firing 302 Tuesday at the UCF Challenge to conclude play.

“We hung in there with similar conditions as the first round, heavy winds and unusually chilly temperatures. We are still wasting to many shots,” MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “We have lots of work to do, but also came out with some positives from this tournament.”

Saving the best round for last, Ji Eun Baik fired a 72 after shooting a team-best four birdies en route to her 229 three-day total. Finishing 44th overall, Baik started out strong and picked up steam finishing her back nine holes at minus-1.

Jessica Peng ended the tournament at 25th after shooting a 78 on the final day, for a three-day total of 224.

Teammate Izel Pieters tied Peng with a 78 on the day.

Shaving off four strokes from her second round total, Bianca Theron ended her day with a 74, while Kendall Wisenbaker fired a 79.

Individual Katie Holt finished with a 231 overall total and 81 on the day.

Mississippi State will be back in action at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate on February 21-23.
