Diamond Dawgs Deliver Season Tickets To Starkville Residents
February 06, 2016 | Baseball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – With more than 5 million fans having attended a game at Dudy Noble Field, Mississippi State fans are known as the most passionate in college baseball. On Saturday, members of the 2016 MSU baseball team showed their appreciation for such passion by delivering season tickets to those season-ticket holders living in the Starkville community.
Starting first thing in the morning, every member of the team scattered across Oktibbeha County, creating a sense of excitement among locals for the 2016 season. Larry Oswalt, who has owned season tickets since before the last major renovation to Dudy Noble Field in 1987, was one of the first to receive his tickets Saturday.
“It is a big treat and really exciting when the players come and personally deliver us our tickets,” Oswalt said. “Mississippi State baseball means everything to us. We've followed all the guys like Will Clark and Bobby Thigpen, all the way up to guys on this year's team. It is a lot of fun and we enjoy it.”
Longtime fan Steve Phillips had been out of town on business the last three years, missing out on the experience his wife woke him up for Saturday. Having been to “The Dude” since the 1980s and traveled to Omaha three times to watch the Maroon and White play, Phillips seemed excited to receive his tickets.
Whether it was meeting 1979 All-American and College World Series participant Ken Kurtz or hanging out with younger fans Caroline and Evelyn, the Bulldogs enjoyed getting to know their loyal fans.
General admission season tickets ($205) and an eight-game Friday mini plan ($50) are currently being sold at HailState.com/tickets. Fans can also purchase tickets by calling 1-888-GO-DAWGS.
Opening Day at Dudy Noble Field for Cohen and company is Friday, Feb. 19. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CT against Florida Atlantic.
