February 28, 2016 | Men's Golf
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CALIF – For the first time in program history, the Mississippi State men's golf Bulldogs will compete in the Southwestern Jones Invitational as they travel to California for their second tournament of the spring.
The two-day, 54-hole event tees off Monday at 10:00 a.m. CST with 36 holes at the par-72 North Ranch Country Club.
“We are looking forward to competing this week in a different part of the country,” MSU coach Clay Homan said. “It looks like the conditions will be firm and fast which is a complete contrast of what we saw in Mobile.”
The 15-team field features Augusta, Boise State, BYU, Fresno State, Iowa, Lipscomb, Northwestern, Oregon, Sam Houston State, San Diego, San Diego State, Southern California, Winthrop and host Pepperdine.
Coming off top 25 finishes, the trio of Ben Follett-Smith, Ross Bell and Jacob Ross return to don the Maroon and White in California.
Senior Ben Wood and sophomore Taylor Grant round out the Bulldog scorecard.
“Our five starters all played with consistency last time out and that's what we need again this week,” said Homan. “It's great to see some of younger guys step up and play like upperclassmen.”
In the last outing, MSU finished eighth at the Mobile Authority Intercollegiate with three Bulldogs in the top 25.
