Peng Again Paces MSU On The Links

New Orleans, LA. – Led by a one-over-par scorecard by Jessica Peng, the Mississippi State women's golf team ended the second round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate at 302 and in 15th place.

Peng followed up a first round 72 with a 73 on Monday, giving her the team's best scorecard for the second day in a row. She was able to bury four birdies to end the round T22 overall.

" We played well today for a few holes and had big numbers for a couple of holes, MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. "Great conditions to score today, we just missed some of them. We are growing and getting better each time we go out to play though."

Ji Eun Baik fired a 76 after shooting a 35 on the front nine holes.

Bianca Theron also posted 76 on the day, a three-shot improvement from the first round, after shooting three birdies Monday.

Izel Pieters had two birdies coming at hole Nos. 5 and 18. She carded a 78 in the second round.

Improving the most from the first round was freshman Elsa Moberly, who had an eight-shot improvement from Sunday's first round. Moberly started the day better as she finished the front nine 2-over-par en route to a 77.

“I stayed more confident today and knew things would turn around,” Moberly said. “Today I played one shot at a time and was definitely more patient that I was in the first round. I concentrated on the good shots and forgot about the bad ones.”

MSU will be back in action for the final round on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
