Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate

Bulldogs Battle In Round One
February 21, 2016 | Women's Golf
New Orleans, La - After one round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate, the Mississippi State women's golf team ended the day with a 303 scorecard to stand at 13th place overall.
Jessica Peng opened the first round by shooting two birdies en route to completing her first nine holes one-under-par. She managed to maintain even par through the first four holes of the last nine before shooting a bogie. She made up for it by hitting a birdie on the very next hole, then shot even par for the final three holes, ultimately closing out her day with a team best 72 and tied for 14th overall.
“I feel like I did well in making the decisions on each of my shots,” Peng said. “I had some bad shots as well though. I just tried to forget about those and get my mind focused on the next shot. “
Ji Eun Baik tallied a 38 on her first nine holes and was able to make up the stroke by finishing her back nine with a 37. Baik returned to the clubhouse with a 75 scorecard, finishing at T38.
Izel Pieters closed out the day with a 77.
Bianca Theron began her day strong but then faced difficulties on the fifth hole of the day. After completing nine holes, she gained a rhythm and played the last nine holes much better, shaving off four strokes and ending the day with a 79.
“I had a really rough start on my opening nine holes, but when I got to hole 10, I forgot about the rest of those shots and started over,” Theron said.
“I concentrated on what I had in front of me and reminded myself of the commitment I have to always give it my best. Coach Brown-Lemm and coach Treloar both helped me relax and stay positive. They helped me finish up my final nine holes strong.”
Elsa Moberly made her spring debut and fired an 85.
MSU will resume play Monday for the second round. Due to expected inclement weather, action will start at 8 a.m. and be a shotgun start.
