Freitas Runs Record Time To Finish First
February 14, 2016 | Track & Field
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Capturing first place in her first-ever mile run, senior track and field runner Marta Freitas posted a time of 4:38.24 to close out day two of the Music City Challenge.
Freitas' time in the mile is the third-best in program history. After her win, Freitas went on to run Mississippi State's second-fastest time of 9:29.30 to finish third in the 3000m run.
“I feel really happy to be back into track. I felt really strong today. We have been doing a great job,” Freitas said. “Coach [Houston] Franks has been great, and really knows what he's doing. I have a lot of trust in him; whatever he thinks is the best I have no doubt that is the way to go. It's a comfort to feel that stability. He's set the plan and we continue to work.”
Following Freitas in the mile run with a third-place finish was Ffion Price. Price's time of 4:41.49 is the fourth-best time in program history. Also competing in the mile run, Madison Milhoan (4:55.92) placed 13th, while Shannon Fair (4:59.31) recorded a 16th-place finish.
