State Matches Best USA Today Poll Ranking, Hosts Luncheon Wednesday

STARKVILLE, Miss. – A day after recording its highest ranking in the Associated Press Top 25, the Mississippi State women's basketball team matched its top mark in the USA Today Coaches Poll as it came in at No. 6.
The Bulldogs rose one spot to No. 6 in both polls after starting the season 7-0. MSU went 4-0 last week, defeating then-No. 8 Texas before winning the Rainbow Wahine Showdown with victories against Oregon, San Jose State and host Hawaii.
State, which rose to No. 6 in the USA Today ranking on Jan. 5, 2016, is one of six SEC teams in this week's poll.
Fans can celebrate the 7-0 start and No. 6 rankings Wednesday as the Bulldogs host their first Hail State Hoops Luncheon of the season.
The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m., with Mize Pavilion doors opening at 11:15. Fans can RSVP via phone (662) 325-0198) or e-mail (dbrown@athletics.msstate.edu).
Cost for each luncheon is $12, but fans can RSVP for all six for $60. Fans who sign up for all six will automatically be registered to win a Mississippi State women's basketball door prize.
Head coach Vic Schaefer, the staff and members of the sixth-ranked Bulldogs will review the opening seven games of the season while looking ahead to Saturday's SEC/Big 12 Challenge contest at Iowa State.
Saturday's contest in Ames, Iowa, tips at 1:30 p.m. CT. It will be televised regionally by Fox Sports Net.
