Diamond Dawgs Announce 2017 Recruiting Class

STARKVILLE, Miss. – With the window of the early signing period having closed, 2016 Southeastern Conference Champion Mississippi State led by head baseball coach Andy Cannizaro boasts an impressive 2017 recruiting class.
"We are extremely excited about this 2017 signing class," said Cannizaro. "We have a tremendous mix of high-ceiling ability with off-the-chart makeup."
Hired as the head man on Nov. 5, Cannizaro has made the most of his time in Starkville thus far with help from MSU assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Will Coggin as they and the rest of the coaching staff reeled in a group of 19 future Diamond Dawgs.
"On the mound, we built this class with power arms that you need to compete at the highest level of the SEC," Cannizaro said. "Our group of position players will rival any group in America and these kids will impact the Mississippi State baseball program for a long time to come. Our staff worked relentlessly to put this elite group together and I want to thank them for all of their time in continuing to make Mississippi State one of the best places in America to play college baseball."
The class is comprised of 11 high school prospects, eight junior college transfers and within it, 10 high school All-Americans, three MLB Draft picks, three junior college All-Americans and a pair of Team USA participants. Perfect Game also has 11 of them ranked in the Top 500 for high school prospects and three ranked in Perfect Game's Junior College Top 50.
All eight of the pitchers in the class have thrown pitches touching 90 MPH, with five of those having thrown pitches that reached 94 MPH. Marshall Gilbert, Owen Lovell, Alex Pener and Reynaldo Rivera are each coming off seasons in which they hit double-digit home runs.
The 19-man group hails from eight states and one United States territory (Puerto Rico), with six of those coming from Alabama and five from Florida. A total of eight signees are ranked in Perfect Game's Top 50 in their respective home state.

The class is comprised of 11 high school prospects, eight junior college transfers and within it, 10 high school All-Americans, three MLB Draft picks, three junior college All-Americans and a pair of Team USA participants. Perfect Game also has 11 of them ranked in the Top 500 for high school prospects and three ranked in Perfect Game's Junior College Top 50.
All eight of the pitchers in the class have thrown pitches touching 90 MPH, with five of those having thrown pitches that reached 94 MPH. Marshall Gilbert, Owen Lovell, Alex Pener and Reynaldo Rivera are each coming off seasons in which they hit double-digit home runs.
The 19-man group hails from eight states and one United States territory (Puerto Rico), with six of those coming from Alabama and five from Florida. A total of eight signees are ranked in Perfect Game's Top 50 in their respective home state.
