Bulldogs to No. 7 in USA Today Coaches Poll; William Named SEC Co-Player of the Week

STARKVILLE, Miss. – After moving up to No. 7 in this week's Associated Press Top 25 Poll, Mississippi State matches that ranking and moves up two spots in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
The No. 7 ranking comes after a 79-68 victory against Texas, who fell in the poll from No. 10 to No. 14.
The Bulldogs improved to 4-0 on the season as they claimed their first win against a Top 10 opponent since 2010.
MSU remains one of two Southeastern Conference teams in the Top 10, with South Carolina coming in a No. 3. Tennessee is the next highest-ranked SEC team at No. 16, while Florida moved to No. 20.
Kentucky and Texas A&M finish out the poll ranked at Nos. 24 and 25, respectively. Missouri and Auburn are receiving votes.
Junior guard Morgan William was also named SEC Co-Player of the Week after a career night versus Texas. The Birmingham native scored 23 points and brought down six rebounds, tying her career high in rebounding.
She also tied her career high in free throws made with 13, moving her into seventh place in MSU career free throws made. William is the MSU record holder for career free throw percentage, having completed 84.6% of shots at the line.
Sunday's contest marked the 10th game of her career as the Bulldogs' leading scorer and was her fourth career game with 20 or more points. William is now averaging 12.3 points per game this season and 9.6 for her career.
The other SEC Co-Player of the Week was South Carolina's Alaina Coates.
Mississippi State heads to Honolulu, Hawaii, to compete in this weekend's Rainbow Wahine Showdown. The Bulldogs face Oregon Friday at 7 p.m. CT and San Jose State at the same time on Saturday. State wraps the trip against host Hawaii on Sunday at 8:30 p.m.
