November 15, 2016 | Men's Tennis
STARKVILLE, Miss. – With a focus on the 2017-18 season, Mississippi State men's tennis head coach Matt Roberts announced the addition of two highly regarded prospects on Tuesday as the Bulldogs sure up their roster for next season.
Florian Broska from Eitelborn, Germany and Hunter Harrison of Little Rock, Ark., signed National Letters of Intent to kickoff the 2017 singing class as Roberts and the Bulldogs build on the bright future ahead for the Maroon and White.
"We're excited to welcome Florian and Hunter to the Bulldog family," Roberts said. "These two men embody the culture we've built here and will carry that mantle for years to come. They're both bright and talented individuals with a tremendous hunger to be great, which are qualities we search for in our recruits. They'll fit in perfectly with our program and will continue the winning tradition we've built here at MSU."
Florian Broska
Eitelborn, Germany | Gymnasium im Kannenbäckerland
5-10 | Right-hander
Coming to Starkville with a wealth of experience on the junior and professional circuits is German native Florian Broska. The 5-10 righty currently holds a 1532 ATP singles ranking, while also boasting a 1478 ATP ranking in doubles. Broska has won a combined 21 singles matches on the junior and professional circuits, with his highlight victory coming against 824 ranked Bernd Kossler at the Austria F8 Futures back in August. Furthermore, Broska owns nine victories against opponents with an 1887 ATP ranking or higher. In his home country, Broska is a top-5 under 18 player while earning a top-100 rating nationally in Germany.
Coach Roberts on Broska: "Florian is a great addition to our team, he carries himself like a professional on and off the court and he's an exact fit to our system here at MSU. We developed a great relationship with Florian, his coach and his family over the recruitment process and we're excited to help him make the transition from college to the professional game while he's at MSU. "
Broska on joining MSU: "I'm really excited and it's an honor to join MSU next year. The team feels like a family and I will be looking forward to getting out on the court with them soon."
Hunter Harrison
Little Rock, Ark. | Pulaski Academy
6-0 | Right-hander
Hunter Harrison, who is rated as a four-star recruit by tennisrecruiting.net, will add an American flare to the Bulldog roster next fall. Harrison is rated the No. 2 player in his home state of Arkansas, while dominating singles play to earn back-to-back state titles with Pulaski Academy. Additionally, Harrison is ninth among Gulf States players, while holding a top 150 national ranking.
Coach Roberts on Harrison: "Hunter will bring an American influence to our roster, along with his great desire to develop his game and become a great player. He will have an impact on this team immediately, because he understands the college system and has a lot of potential to grow as a player. He's already a gifted athlete because he comes from a great program led by Thomas Andersson, who coached Matt Walters and myself."
Harrison on joining MSU: "I'm really excited and thankful to be a part of the Bulldog family. It's going to be great playing on a Division I tennis team with a storied tradition like Mississippi State."
