November 14, 2016 | Women's Basketball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – A 2-0 record kept Mississippi State women's basketball at No. 10 in Monday's Associated Press Top 25 Poll.
The Bulldogs maintained their preseason ranking after opening the season with a 108-62 win against Villanova and an 87-43 triumph against Maine to win the Maine Tipoff Tournament championship.
Mississippi State stayed in the poll for the 38th-straight week, the ninth-longest active streak in the nation.
Vic Schaefer's team has won 30 of its last 31 regular season non-conference games, including 10-straight. The Bulldogs head to Biloxi, Miss., Wednesday to face Tulane in a 7 p.m. tip at Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
Tickets for that game are still on sale and cost $10 for reserved seats and $5 for general admission. Youth age 18 and under get in free. Fans can order tickets online at www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 1-800-745-3000 or at the coliseum box office.
MSU opens the home slate Sunday, hosting No. 8 Texas in a 5 p.m. tip at Humphrey Coliseum. Fans are encouraged to wear black to the StarkVegas Night game as the Bulldogs go for another 10K crowd at the Hump.
Junior Victoria Vivians paced MSU in Saturday's championship game, scoring all 26 of her points in the first half to earn tournament MVP honors. Redshirt junior Roshunda Johnson also earned a place on the all-tournament team, averaging 17.5 points in her first two games as a Bulldog.
Johnson scored 21 points, 15 in the second quarter, in the opener against Villanova. She followed with 14 points in the fourth quarter against the host Black Bears.
The Top 14 in the poll remained unchanged. The Bulldogs stayed the league's second-highest ranked SEC team behind South Carolina at No. 4. Notre Dame, Baylor and UConn maintained the Top 3 slots.
Tennessee stayed at No. 13, while Kentucky moved up four places to 15th. Missouri slipped one place to 25th.
