STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State added another of the Magnolia State's top players as Terry product Nyah Tate inked with the Bulldogs.
With Tate's signing, the Bulldogs add the No. 66 player in the nation by All-Star Girls Report and the 158th-ranked player by Dan Olsen's Collegiate Girls Basketball Report.
Tate joins fellow in-state standout Myah Taylor and Florida native Jonika Garvin in the early signing period for Vic Schaefer's Bulldogs.
"This is very exciting to be able to finally sign with Mississippi State," Tate said. "It really is a dream come true for me because Mississippi State has been my favorite school. I'm very excited to be making Mississippi State my home for the next four years."
"When I first stepped foot on campus for an unofficial visit, I realized it felt like home. The team and coaches really care about each other, and everywhere I went on campus it felt like a family environment. To have the opportunity to play for Mississippi State and compete in the SEC is something I'm very proud of."
The four-star Terry High School standout earned a third-straight Dandy Dozen selection by The Clarion-Ledger and enters her senior season looking to build on a junior campaign that saw her average 12 points, four assists and five rebounds despite missing half the season with an injury.
"Nyah is someone who, along with Myah, we have had on our radar for many years," Schaefer said. "She's a big, long guard who has a high release point that is hard to get to. She reminds me of another great player Johnnie and I signed before who went on to have a great college career. Nyah is another player our staff has worked hard recruiting, and we are excited about having her and her family be part of our Mississippi State family. Nyah is someone we knew we had to sign when we got to Mississippi State, and we are so proud to have her becoming a Bulldog."
The 6-foot guard's stellar play down the stretch for Angela Johnson's squad a year ago earned her a spot on the south squad for the MAC All-Star Game, where she finished with eight points.
Tate started to garner national recognition following an all-state sophomore season in which she averaged nearly 10 points per contest to help lead Terry to its first appearance in the state tournament.
That stellar sophomore campaign came after she scored 10.6 ppg as a freshman.
Tate played AAU basketball last summer for the Arkansas Mavericks.
