PENSACOLA, Fla. – A stellar run by Mississippi State men's tennis sophomores Nuno Borges and Strahinja Rakic continued on Monday as the pair each punched their ticket to the main draw of the Pensacola Futures after earning singles wins.
Fourth-seeded Nuno Borges overcame American Mac Kiger, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, as the Bulldog advanced to Tuesday's main draw. Fellow Bulldog Rakic defeated his third ATP ranked opponent at the Pensacola Futures, after upsetting sixth-seeded and 1497 ranked Alberto Barroso Campos, 6-3, 6-3.
"I'm proud of what Nuno and Strale have accomplished so far in Pensacola," head coach Matt Roberts said. "They've beat some great opponents and are finishing the fall off strong. Each match is another chance to grow and develop, so I'm excited to see how they compete in the main draw tomorrow."
On Tuesday, Borges will open the main draw against third-seeded and 446 ranked Jose Statham of New Zealand. Rakic faces sixth-seeded and 714 ATP ranked Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada
