Bulldogs Close Out Play At Pensacola Futures

USTA Pensacola Futures Draws

PENSACOLA, Fla. – A stellar run by sophomores Nuno Borges and Strahinja Rakic at the Pensacola Futures came to an end on Tuesday after the pair fell in singles main draw action, officially capping the fall season for the Mississippi State men's tennis team.

After each earning four singles wins in the qualifying draw over the weekend, Borges and Rakic tasked with upsetting two seeded opponents to advanced to Wednesday's second round, but the pair couldn't overcome their opponents as they fell in tough contests at the Roger Scott Tennis Center.

Third-seeded Jose Statham of New Zealand defeated Borges, 6-3, 6-4, on Tuesday, while Rakic dropped his match to sixth-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada, 6-1, 6-3. The foes each owned an ATP ranking, as Statham was 446th and Auger-Aliassime ranked 714th.
