Pair Of Bulldogs Move On To Next Round At Pensacola Futures

PENSACOLA, Fla. – On the second day of qualifying action at the Roger Scott Tennis Center, Mississippi State men's tennis sophomores Nuno Borges and Strahinja Rakic moved on to the third round of singles play at the Pensacola Futures.

The pair each won a straight-set victory, as Borges defeated Stetson's Loic Blanco 6-2, 6-4, while Rakic won 6-4, 7-6(5) over right-handed American Ryan Ybarra. With the wins the Bulldog pair only need two more victories to advance to the Pensacola Futures main draw, which begin on Nov. 15.

Also in action were sophomores Niclas Braun and Trevor Foshey. Braun fell in a tough battle to Alex Nfeve, 7-6(8), 6-3, while second-seeded and 1133 ATP ranked Vasil Kirkov ousted Foshey, 6-1, 6-3.

After concluding play in Pensacola, the Bulldogs will turn their full attention to the spring slate as MSU prepares for its season opener against Pepperdine on Jan. 20, 2017 in Malibu, Calif.
