STARKVILLE, Miss. – Once again Mississippi State has signed the state's top player as Olive Branch sensational guard Myah Taylor signed a National Letter of Intent with the Bulldogs during the early signing period.
Taylor enters her senior season a five-star prospect who is ranked No. 49 overall, the 14th-best guard, in the nation by ESPN/HoopGurlz and No. 51 overall, the No. 10 point guard, by the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report.
"I'm very excited. I've been waiting for this since last year when I committed," Taylor said. "I'm very eager and ready to be at Mississippi State."
"The school is great, hands down one of the best schools in the country. They have the best coaching staff anyone could ask for. I feel like it's a family environment, and I have a great relationship with all the coaches, especially with Coach Schaefer. Being a point guard, it's great to have a good relationship with the head coach, and I have that with him."
Last week the 5-foot-7 guard earned Clarion-Ledger Dandy Dozen honors for the third-straight year as her Olive Branch squad begins the season No. 2 in the state.
Taylor was invited to the United States Women's U17 Olympic Trials following a junior campaign that saw her claim the Clarion-Ledger's Best of MS Preps Female Athlete of the Year as well as a second-straight Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year honor.
"We are so proud of Myah, and we are proud to have her become part of our Mississippi State family. My staff and I have been working hard recruiting Myah for many years, and it's an honor for us to have the two-time Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year becoming a Bulldog. She has been a tremendous high school player, and she is going to be a great college player. Myah comes from a great family, and we are thrilled to have them joining our family here in Starkville."
She averaged 26.1 points, 6.9 assists, 5.8 steals and 4.1 rebounds during her junior season, helping the Conquistadors to a 25-3 record and the second round of the Class 6A playoffs. Taylor shot nearly 50 percent from the field, including 39 percent from 3-point range.
The in-state talent scored 30 or more points in 10 games last season, including a season-high 47 against Horn Lake on Feb. 19.
She also won Gatorade Player of the Year and Pepsi Best of the Preps Player of the Year during a sophomore season in which she led Olive Branch to a 32-2 record and MHSAA 6A state runner-up honors. Taylor shot 56.7 percent from the floor for the year, averaging 18.2 points and 8.3 assists.
While Taylor has shined on the basketball court, she as also excelled off of it as well, being inducted into the Olive Branch National Honor Society.
Taylor played AAU basketball for Doug Bush's Alabama Southern Starz, helping lead her team to a Division I national championship.
Taylor joins Florida forward Jonika Garvin in the Bulldogs' early signing class.
