MSU Women’s Tennis Ends Play At Under Armour Kickoff
October 08, 2016 | Women's Tennis
WACO, Texas – The Mississippi State women's tennis team wrapped up play on the second day of the Under Armour Kickoff Saturday.
"Our girls played some quality tennis out here," head coach Daryl Greenan said. "We are making progress and getting better each week. We just need to get back to work this week and build on the experiences to get ready for Regionals next weekend."
State started the day in doubles with Caroline Kelly and Sara Lizariturry falling to host Baylor's Theresa Van Zyl and Elizabeth Profit 8-1 in the quarterfinals. Kelly filled in for teammate Jennifer Brown who could not play due to injury.
On the singles side, the MSU rookie Lizariturry lost a tough three-set affair to ULM's Stefana Andrei 5-7, 7-6(7), 6-3 in the main draw quarterfinals.
In the singles consolation draw quarterfinals, Kelly fell to Troy's Efriliya Herlina 6-4, 6-4.
Next up for the Bulldogs will be a pair of tournaments next weekend. Senior Jasmine Lee, ranked eighth nationally, will compete in the second major of the year, the Oracle ITA Masters in Malibu, Calif., Oct. 13-16. The remainder of the State squad will make the short trip to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to compete in the ITA Southern Region Indoor Championships.
