October 30, 2016 | Soccer
STARKVILLE, Miss. – After leading the team on and off the soccer field in 2016, Mississippi State junior Mallory Eubanks was named to the All-SEC Second Team, the league announced on Sunday.
The Lexington, Ky., native led the team in goals (3), assists (3) and points (9) while championing her team to its best finish since 2012. The junior Bulldog was also a candidate for the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year after amassing a 4.0 GPA throughout her collegiate career.
"It's a privilege to be selected and I am beyond thankful to be named to the All-SEC Second Team," Eubanks said. "I wouldn't be where I am without the support of my teammates and the coaching staff. They deserve this recognition too because it's as much of a team award as it is an individual one."
Eubanks led the group of four forwards named to the All-SEC Second Team, sharing the honor with Sarah Luebbert (Missouri), Sophie Groff (South Carolina) and Haley Pounds (Texas A&M).
Aside from leading the team in goals, assists and points this season, Eubanks also started all 17 games she played in and logged 1,482 minutes on the field. For her career, Eubanks has played and started in 53 games while earning a total of 4,585 minutes for the Bulldogs.
"This is a great honor for Mallory and no one else is more deserving than her," head coach Aaron Gordon said. "She's made an impact on our team from day one and I think this award is a recognition of all the hard work she's put in over the last three years."
In 2014 Eubanks was named to the SEC All-Freshmen Team, becoming the first Bulldogs since 2005 to claim the honor. Her award in 2016 is the first All-SEC Second Team selection for MSU since Elisabeth Sullivan in 2013. Along with Sullivan, Eubanks is the only the second Bulldog to earn an All-SEC Team honor since Luisa Marzotto in 2003.
