MSU Concludes Road Slate Against No. 20 Florida
October 22, 2016 | Soccer
STARKVILLE, Miss. – In the 2016 road finale, the Mississippi State soccer team (6-10-0, 1-8-0 SEC) travels to Gainesville on Sunday as the Bulldogs face 20th-ranked Florida (11-4-0, 6-3-0 SEC) seeking to upset the Gators on Senior Day.
Sunday's game at Dizney Stadium will be broadcast on SEC Network +, with kickoff slated for 12:05 p.m. CT on Sunday.
"This will be another great opportunity for our team this Sunday," head coach Aaron Gordon said. "We are facing a tough team that is coming off a good performance on Thursday night, but every game in the SEC is another chance to grow and get better. It's our last road game of the season and it's against the No. 20 team in the nation, so we couldn't ask for a better matchup."
The Gators defeated Alabama, 6-0, on Thursday night to continue its three-game win streak at home.
Last Time Out
Despite outshooting Tennessee on Thursday night, luck was not in MSU's favor as the Bulldogs fell to the Volunteers in Knoxville, 3-0.
Scouting Florida
The Gators have won five out of their last six games, outscoring opponents 17-2 during that same stretch. Forward Savannah Jordan leads the Gator attack with 13 goals this season, which is tied for fourth in the NCAA and tops the SEC. The senior has scored five times in the last four outings, while adding one assist.
Keys For MSU
MSU needs to find a way to break through UF's stout defense, which will be tough for the Bulldogs who have struggled on the offensive end as of late. State has managed to score at least one goal against the Gators in six of the last seven meetings, but has never scored more than a goal in a game during the all-time head-to-head series.
One Goal Losses
This season the Bulldogs have lost six contests by only one deciding goal. No. 25 Virginia Tech (1-2), Lipscomb (0-1), Vanderbilt (1-2), Missouri (1-2), No. 2 South Carolina (0-1) and LSU (0-1) make up the one-goal defeats.
Up Next
The Maroon and White will return home Thursday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. CT as the Bulldogs face Texas A&M in the season finale from the MSU Soccer Field.
