Fog Cuts Day One At Mountaineer Intercollegiate Short
October 10, 2016 | Men's Golf
BRIDGEPORT, W.V. – For the second consecutive year, day one at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate was cut short with the Mississippi State men's golf team playing solid golf.
The Bulldogs ended the day fifth with an opening-round 295 after fog caused an hour-plus delay to the start of Monday's round.
"We got off to a pretty good start today, but we didn't finish off our first round well, dropping several shots on holes 16-18," MSU coach Clay Homan said. "I was pleased with how we bounced back and made several birdies in the second round."
Taylor Grant paced the Bulldogs with a first round even-par 72 to tie for 12th.
Garrett Johnson and Ross Bell both turned in scorecards of 74 to tie for 23rd place after the opening 18 holes.
Senior Jackson Dick sat in a tie for 35th after shooting a 75.
Rounding out the MSU scorecard, Taylor Bibbs carded a 76 en route to tying for 42nd place.
"We will have to play about 20 or 21 holes tomorrow due to an hour fog delay this morning" Homan said. "We need to be ready to go in the morning and pick up where we left off."
Cincinnati leads the team leaderboard and sits just six shots ahead of MSU, while Patrick Flavin of Miami (Ohio) holds the top individual spot.
The 14-team field will attempt to finish the second round with an 8 a.m. CT shotgun start, weather permitting.
