Track & Field Completes Season Opener In Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La – Tying her personal-best, sophomore Logan Boss cleared 5-09.75 to bring home first-place in the high jump at the Purple Tiger Invite. Her height is the third best in program history.
“Tonight was a successful start to the season,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “We got a chance to see where our athletes are currently. It's only the beginning, but we got to see where some of our newcomers are at. This is a great place to start and we hope to continue to get better as a team from here.”
Senior Seth Peace also tied his personal-best in the high jump after clearing 6-09.75 to finish second, while teammate Willie Reed cleared 6-04.00 to finish 14th.
Three members of the women's team finished back-to-back in the 60m hurdles finals. Leading the way was senior Ste'yce McNeil in third with a time of 8.38. Immediately following McNeil in fourth was Tiffany Flynn running a time of 8.43, while freshman Leah Lott placed fifth clocking a time of 8.54.
After qualifying for the 60m dash finals, Lott went on to qualify for the 60m dash finals where she finished seventh overall with a time of 7.76. On the men's side, five athletes competed in the 60m dash preliminaries, but none were able to qualify for the finals.
The women's 4x800m relay team comprised of Madison Milhoan, Kaelin Kersh, Alon Lewis and Kimari Martin clocked a time of 9:25.17 to bring home fourth place in the event.
Rounding up action on the track, McNeil placed ninth in the 600m run with a time of 1:39.28, while newcomer Zaria Tillman finished 14th running a time of 1:47.50. For the men, All-American Alfred Larry began his season with a sixth place finish in the 600m run clocking a time of 1:20.76. behind Larry was freshman Rasheed Tatham with a time of 1:22.64 in eighth, Dustin James II (1:23.42) in 12th and freshman Vince Castillo (1:24.04) in 14th, respectively.
Brianna Smith finished fourth in the weight throw after tossing 58-04.50, while teammate Haley Reynolds threw 51-03.50 to finish 12th. Reynolds went on to place seventh in the shot put after a throw of 43-08.50.
Jumping a personal-best 23-06 in the long jump, A.J. Ward brought home fifth place in the event, while Flynn placed 23rd in the event with a leap of 16-08.00
Also in the field for the Bulldogs, Austin cleared 15-00 in the pole vault earning 10th place overall.
