MSU Track & Field Conclude Day One Of Conference Clash

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Bringing home a number of top five finishes, the Mississippi State track and field teams concluded day one of the Conference Clash Friday in Birmingham.
“We are constantly wanting to improve,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “This meet has many talented athletes competing this weekend. Tomorrow I'd like to see every one of our athletes go out fighting and continue to get better.”
Qualifying for tomorrow's finals, junior Ro'Derick Spears posted a time of 8.06 in the 60m hurdle prelims, finishing fourth overall. He will begin action on the track for the Bulldogs tomorrow at 12:04 p.m. CT.
Sophomore Tiffany Flynn jumped 41-06 in the triple jump to finish fifth prior to running a time of 8.47 in the 60m hurdles to finish 18th. Following Flynn in the 60m hurdles was Zaria Tillman with a time of 9.07 in 34th.
Running in the distance medley relay for the first time this season, the MSU men's team, comprised of Brandon McBride, Rasheed Tatham, Patrick Monaghan and Andrew Monaghan, clocked a time of 9:56.37 to finish fourth in the event. On the women's side, Ffion Price, Kimari Martin, Madison Milhoan and Cornelia Griesche placed sixth in the relay after posting a time of 11:47.78.
With a personal-best 6.87, Charles Taylor finished 12th in the 60m dash, falling just short of qualifying for Saturday's finals. Also placing in the Top 20 of the event were freshman Lawrence Crawford (6.90) in 16th and sophomore Rodrigo Rocha (6.91) in 18th. Rocha went on to finish ninth in the 200m dash with a time of 21.32.
With a clearance of 6-10.75, Seth Peace finished fifth in the high jump. In the weight throw for the Bulldogs, Brianna Smith finished seventh with a throw of 57-09.75, while teammate Haley Reynolds placed 15th after a toss of 46-05.50
Heading into day two of the Conference Clash, the SEC men's conference leads the Power 4 28 to 21 points, while the Power 4 women's teams lead the SEC conference 28 to 24.
Action will resume tomorrow with Carl Pittman in the pole vault, Flynn, Leah Lott and A.J. Ward in the long jump and Reynolds in the shot put at 11 a.m. CT.
