Larry, Price Lead MSU To Four Wins At Commodore Invite

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Wins in the 400m dash and 4x400m relay on Saturday gave senior Alfred Larry three wins for the weekend as the Mississippi State men's and women's track and field teams combined for four wins at Commodore Invite in Nashville.
After winning the 200m dash on Friday, Larry posted a time of 47.05 to hoist the 400m dash title. He wrapped the weekend combining with Juston Waters, Charles Taylor and Vince Castillo to win the 4x400m relay in a time of 3:09.56.
State's other win of the weekend came on the women's side from junior Ffion Price, who ran a program third-best 2:09.31 in the 800m run in her first collegiate meet.
“If we just believe what we do at practice, then everything will be all right,” Larry said. “We ran well this weekend. I feel good with where my times are right now. We're just getting started, and we will get faster.”
Castillo (48.23) and Rasheed Tatham (48.34) followed Larry in the 400 meters, finishing fourth and seventh, respectively.
Madison Milhoan followed Price in the 800m, finishing 12th in a time of 2:16.35.
Junior Ro'Derick Spears ran 8.00 in the 60m hurdles finals to finish second overall after qualifying for the final with a time 8.07. In the women's 60m hurdle finals, sophomore Tiffany Flynn finished seventh with a time of 8.54. She also claimed a seventh-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 40-09.
In their first meet of the season, distance runners Lisa Ziegler, Shannon Fair and Andrew Monaghan represented MSU in the mile run. Ziegler finished 13th with a time of 5:04.10, immediately followed by Fair in 14th with a time of 5:04.45. Monaghan clocked a time of 4:13.59 to finish 12th in the event.
The women's 4x400m relay, comprised of Alon Lewis, Kimari Martin, Price and Milhoan, captured eighth in 3:52.63.
Martin also finished second in the 400m dash with an indoor personal-best 54.63, while Lewis followed with a time of 57.14 to take ninth place.
In the field, junior Haley Reynolds claimed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 46-01.25. Sydney Rodkey took 11th place in the pole vault after clearing 11-03.75.
The Bulldogs travel to Birmingham, Alabama, for a pair of meets next week. State competes in the Samford Multi Invitational Wednesday and Thursday before participating in the Auburn Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
