
Reed Leads Heptathlon At Samford Multi Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Leading after day one in the heptathlon, sophomore Willie Reed scored 2,901 points to place first going into day two of the Samford Multi Invitational.
Kicking off action with the 60m dash, Reed ran a personal-best 7.12 to finish second, earning 840 points. Reed went on to leap 22-07 in the long jump for 785 points before throwing 34-06.75 for 518 points in the shot put. To end the day, Reed cleared 6-04.75 in the high jump finishing second overall.
Running a personal-best 6.93 in the 60m dash, junior Zachary Taylor earned 907 points in the first event of the event of the heptathlon. With a leap of 22-03.50 to score 764 points, Taylor placed third overall. In the shot put, Taylor threw 32-11.25 for 488 points before clearing 5-10.75 in the high jump. Going into day two of the heptathlon, Taylor sits in fourth place with 2,786 points.
Junior Jaquarius Wilson started day one of the heptathlon scoring 729 points after clocking a time of 7.45 in the 60m dash. He went on to score 624 points in the long jump after a leap of 20-03. Wilson threw 34-07 to earn 518 points in the shot put prior to clearing 5-10.75 in the high jump. To conclude day one, Wilson scored 2,498 points to finish 10th.
Making his MSU debut, freshman Gralyn Jones goes into day two with 2,454 points in 12th place. He ran a time of 7.42 in the 60m dash, scoring 739 points before going on to earn 593 points after a leap of 19-09.50 in the long jump. In the shot put, Jones threw 29-01 to place 15th overall before clearing 6-02.25 to earn 705 points in the high jump.
Sitting in 14th place heading into day two, Jesse Austin tallied 2,366 points. He ran a personal-best 7.49 in the 60m dash to earn 716 points and leaped 19-06 in the long jump to finish 14th in the event. Placing seventh in the shot put, Austin had a throw of 34-10.50 for 524 points. To round out day one, Austin cleared 5-07.25, scoring 552 points to finish 14th overall.
Action at the Samford Multi Invitational will resume tomorrow with the heptathlon 60m hurdles.
