Dan Mullen Elected To AFCA Board of Trustees

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Mississippi State's Dan Mullen was one of five head coaches elected to the Board of Trustees of the American Football Coaches Association at the organization's national convention on Tuesday.
The Board formulates policy and provides direction for the AFCA, which was founded in 1922 by Amos Alonzo Stagg, John Heisman and others. The AFCA has more than 11,000 members from all levels of the profession. The five coaches were elected by members attending the convention.
Mullen just completed his seventh year at Mississippi State, guiding the Bulldogs to back-to-back seasons of at least nine victories for the first time in program history. MSU (9-4) capped 2015 with a 51-28 win over NC State in the Belk Bowl, giving Mullen a school-record four bowl victories. The 43-year-old has spearheaded the Bulldogs to a school-record six straight bowl appearances.
Mullen (55-35, .611) owns the highest winning percentage as a State coach since the late College Football Hall of Famer Allyn McKeen from 1939-48 (.764), and he is third in school history in victories (55). In the eight years prior to Mullen's arrival, the Bulldogs were 32-65.
The program has been a model of consistency while playing in college football's toughest division. MSU has set 101 statistical records during Mullen's tenure, and at 19-7, the Bulldogs are the Southeastern Conference's third winningest team since the start of the 2014 season behind only Alabama and Georgia.
In 2014, Mullen developed a team that went from unranked to No. 1 quicker than any in college football history (five weeks). He was named Maxwell Football National Coach of the Year and Associated Press SEC Coach of the Year for his efforts.
