January 11, 2016 | Baseball
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State junior right-handed pitcher Dakota Hudson was named a third-team preseason All-American by Perfect Game, the media outlet announced Monday.
One of three team captains for the 2016 season, Hudson earned the accolade after a successful summer in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League, which in 2015 featured 292 former players on Major League Baseball rosters. Hudson finished the summer ranked fifth in the CCBL regular season in both strikeouts (41) and ERA (1.69) and was named to the CCBL Year-End All-League Team.
Along with MSU teammate Vance Tatum, Hudson led the Hyannis Harbor Hawks to the CCBL Western Division championship and their first appearance in the league championship series since 2000. The Dunlap, Tennessee, native and Tatum were two of a school-record eight Bulldogs that competed in the CCBL this past summer. State's five pitchers on the Cape totaled a 2.24 ERA in 204 2/3 innings pitched.
As a result of his outstanding summer, the draft-eligible Hudson has been named a top-40 college prospect for the 2016 MLB Draft by Perfect Game (No. 13), D1 Baseball (No. 15), Baseball America (No. 20) and MLB.com (No. 33).
Opening Day for Hudson at Dudy Noble Field is Friday, Feb. 19, 2016. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CT against Florida Atlantic.
