Bell Tied For Eighth After 36 Holes at Shoal Creek Invitational
September 28, 2015 | Men's Golf
BIRMINGHAM – On a wet course due to light rain throughout the day, redshirt freshman Ross Bell's play shined bright enough to be tied for eighth after 36 holes Monday at the Shoal Creek Invitational.
Mississippi State shot 590 as a team and is in sole possession of eight place.
Bell, the Madison, Miss. native, fired a opening-round 71 before posting a 73 in the second round to finish Monday even at a 144.
“Ross had a really nice day and played with a lot of consistency,” MSU coach Clay Homan said. “I saw some pretty good play at times out of everyone.”
Joining Bell in the Top 30 was Ben Follett-Smith, who is tied for 27th after a 149.
Senior Ben Wood shot a 36-hole total of 150 to place him in a tie for 34th heading into Tuesday final round.
Competing in his eighth-straight tournament, Taylor Grant carded a 154 to tie for 52nd.
Making his season debut, Jackson Dick stands at 61st after shooting a 157.
“The one thing you have to do at Shoal Creek is put the ball in the fairway. If you are a little bit off, it's hard to make pars,” Homan said. “The scores are really bunched up and a good round (Tuesday) will go a long way.”
Host UAB, led by individual leader Lee Hodges, sits atop the leaderboard with a seven-stroke lead.
The Bulldogs return to the course at 7:30 a.m. for Tuesday's final round.
