Diamond Dawgs Announce Fall Scrimmage Schedule
September 14, 2015 | Baseball
Tuesday's lid-lifter is scheduled to begin around 5 p.m. For baseball fans attending MSU football's game against Northwestern State this Saturday, the Diamond Dawgs will scrimmage at 11 a.m. at Dudy Noble prior to football's 3 p.m. kickoff.
The fall schedule wraps up the weekend of Oct. 16-18 with the annual Bulldog World Series, where the seniors split up and draft two teams for an exciting a best-of-three series.
State is coming off a summer which saw nine of its 17 student-athletes (eight position players, one pitcher) earn all-star honors in their respective leagues. The seven Bulldog pitchers competing this summer combined to record a 2.21 ERA in 252 2/3 innings of work. The 11 hitters totaled a .304 batting average at the plate, tallying 399 hits in 1,312 at-bats.
Individually, junior Dakota Hudson was named MSU's Pitcher of the Summer after being named to the Cape Cod Baseball League Year-End All-League Team. Cohen named redshirt sophomore Brent Rooker MSU's Hitter of the Summer after the outfielder was named Most Valuable Player in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.
Fall ball will also be the first chance for fans to watch Cohen's nationally-ranked recruiting class, which features three picks from the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft as well as two Gatorade State Players of the Year.
