STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State will face American Athletic Conference foe South Florida on Dec. 30 as part of the SEC/AAC Challenge in Jacksonville, Fla.
The event will be held at Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena, site of the 2016 SEC Tournament. Florida will face Central Florida event's other game.
"The SEC is pleased to partner with the American Athletic Conference to create a four-team event at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena, home of the 2016 SEC Women's Basketball Tournament," SEC Assistant Commissioner Leslie Claybrook said. "This will be the first time for the state of Florida to host the conference's women's tournament and this event gives the SEC an opportunity to create two exciting non-conference games as well as get an early start in creating interest in the SEC Women's Basketball Tournament."
Times, ticket and television information will be released at a later date.
"The American Athletic Conference is pleased to announce this two game challenge with the SEC," AAC Associate Commissioner Barbara Jacobs said. "Our teams are looking forward to bringing the talent and intensity of The American to their fans in Jacksonville for what are sure to be outstanding matchups."
The contest is a rematch of the 2014 WNIT quarterfinal, a game won by the Bulls 60-58 on a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Mississippi State responded last season with the best campaign in program history, going 27-7 overall, 11-5 in the SEC, and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
USF also claimed 27 wins and went 15-3 in the American while advancing to the NCAA Tournament second round.
