McDonald Roars Back To Fire A 74
May 08, 2015 | Women's Golf
After firing an 80 in the opening round of the NCAA Raleigh Regional on Thursday, the Mississippi State senior standout bounced back with a team-best 74 at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course after recording three birdies.
“It was obviously a better score today, but it's still not where I want to be,” McDonald said of her play. ”Now, I've got to go out and give my best tomorrow. We'll see what happens.”
The Bulldogs totaled a 306 as a team and now enter Saturday's final round with a two-day total of 606 and tied for 10th.
Only the top six advance to nationals, but the Bulldogs are just 10 shots out of that coveted spot.
“We've got a little work to do, but I know we have the capability to play well and make the cut,” McDonald said. “We've just got to go out and do it.”
Jessica Peng turned in another solid performance with her 76 and finds herself in a tie for 19th at 148.
Ji Eun Baik fired a 77 and is tied for 43rd at 152, while Rica Tse is tied for 55th with McDonald after recording a 79.
Also with a 79 on Friday was Blaise Carabello, who is now tied for 72nd with a 157.
Through two rounds, the Bulldogs have 21 birdies and 107 pars.
Mississippi State is slated to be on the course at 6:30 a.m. CT and will be paired with Furman and Iowa State.
“I know what we are capable of doing,” MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “We are right there. We've been in this position before. We've just got to go out, play our game and compete like we've done all year.”
