
Bougard Breaks MSU High Jump Record

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Wrapping up the 2015 Mississippi State outdoor track and field regular season at home, Erica Bougard ended on a high note breaking the high jump record and earning three event wins.
Clearing an MSU school record 6-00 in the high jump, Bougard went on to place first. Bougard also earned first place in the javelin with a throw of 118-03 before capturing the victory in the 100m hurdles running a personal-best 13.03, which is the second fastest time in MSU school history.
"I thought this was a great way to end the season," MSU coach Steve Dudley said. "We've got a lot to do to get ready for the SEC championships, but I think we are getting where we need to be. These athletes have worked hard all season and hopefully we can carry this momentum into championships season."
Also setting a school record for the Bulldogs was Ocian Archer in the 400m hurdles. Archer's time of 58.29 earned her the record as well as first place. Finishing immediately behind Archer in second was Ste'yce McNeil with a time of 58.38.
On the men's side, Scottie Hearn captured the men's 400m hurdles victory with a time of 50.57, while Jovan Davis brought home second with a time of 51.06. Hearn remains undefeated this season in the event.
Marta Freitas ran a personal-best 4:19.97 in the 1500m run, which is the third-best time in MSU history. Damian Roszko brought home the men's 1500m title running a time of 3:54.38.
Coming up just short of her personal-best of 2:05.00, Rhianwedd Price ran a time of 2:06.18 to claim first place in the 800m run.
Competing in their last regular season meet of their careers, Marcus Jackson, Tautvydas Kieras, and Ebony Brinker captured first place victories. Jackson earned his in the high jump by clearing 7-05, while Kieras threw 177-00 in the discus and 56-05.75 in the shot put to bring home a pair of first place finishes. With a leap of 41-01.75, Brinker was thrid overal, but first collegiately in the triple jump.
MSU brought home first place in the men's javelin with a personal-best throw of 225-10 from Curtis Thompson. Tiffany Flynn earned first in the long jump with a leap of 19-09.50.
To conclude the meet, both MSU 4x400m relay teams captured victories. The women's team, made up of Archer, McNeil, Shayla Luckett and Kimari Martin ran 3:39.75, while the men's team comprised of Hearn, Juston Waters, Alfred Larry and Charles Taylor ran 3:09.60.
With the conclusion of the regular season, Dudley's squads will turn attention toward the SEC Championships, which will take place May 14-16 in Starkville.
