
Grant Shoots 69, Bulldogs Finish 14th At SEC Championship

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Freshman Taylor Grant fired a final round one-under-par 69 to lead the Mississippi State men's golf team to a 297 and a 14th-place finish at the SEC Championships on Sunday.
Grant's 69 propelled the Abilene, Texas native 12 spots up the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 53rd.
Junior Ben Wood carded a final round 78 to finish the tournament in a tie for 59th.
Fellow classmate Tim Walker shot a 76, finishing the three-day event in sole possession of the 63rd spot.
Johnny Newnham closed out his first SEC Championship appearance with a 76 to place him in a tie for 64th.
Rounding out the MSU scorecard, sophomore Ben Follett-Smith turned in a final round scorecard of 81 to finish 68th.
No. 7 LSU took home the team crown, winning by three shots against No. 5 Vanderbilt and No. 6 South Carolina. The Gamecocks' Matthew NeSmith captured the individual championship, winning by six shots against the rest of the field.
The Bulldogs finish off the season on Friday, competing for the Sanders Cup in a match play exhibition with Delta State.
