ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – On the second day of the 2015 SEC Championship, the Mississippi State men's golf team shot a 17-over-par round, placing 14th heading into Sunday's final round.
“We just got nothing out of our short game today,” MSU coach Clay Homan said.
After shooting his 10th under-par round of the season on Friday, Ben Wood followed it with a four-over-par 74 to tie for 41st.
Australian native, Tim Walker, shot a second round 75 to tie him for 60th in the tournament.
Freshman Johnny Newnham matched his first round total of 74 with another 74, to tie him for 62nd.
Joining Newnham in a tie for 62nd, Ben Follett-Smith shot a 74 to match his first round 74.
Rounding out the Bulldog scorecard, Freshman Taylor Grant shot a second round of 76 to tie him for 65th heading into Sunday's final round.
“We hit well enough to shoot close to par, but around the greens was poor,” Homan said.
South Carolina's Matthew NeSmith holds a one shot lead over Alabama's Robby Shelton, while No. 25 Alabama holds a five shot lead over No. 7 LSU going into Sunday's final round.
The Maroon & White tees off for the final time on Sunday at 7:10 a.m. CT. MSU is paired with Tennessee.
