Bulldogs Conclude 2015 SEC Championship
April 20, 2015 | Women's Golf
Birmingham, Ala. – After another weather-delayed day, the Mississippi State women's golf team finished the final round of the SEC Championship in 12th place, firing a three-day total of 897.
Originally schedule for a 10 a.m. shotgun start, Sunday's tee time was pushed back an hour and a half due to hazardous weather conditions. A 55-minute weather delay was the only blemish in an otherwise clear day at the Greystone Country Club.
Leading in all three rounds of the event, Texas A&M finished in first place, shooting 14 under for the tournament.
“It was not the week we had hoped for, but this team is very resilient and we fully anticipate a great regional finish, with our goal of competing for a national championship,” coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said.
For the third day in a row senior Ally McDonald led the way for the Bulldogs, finishing tied for 12th individually. She was able to fire one under par in the back nine holes Sunday, finishing 2 over par for the event.
“For the most part in years past, this tournament has been a struggle for me. Yesterday when I posted that 69, it was my first round in the 60's through all four years,” McDonald said. “All in all I thought I played alright today. The course was not in the greatest shape due to weather, so I think we all struggled there. I think we had some good positives going from here into NCAA play.”
Sophomore Jessica Peng started the day off strong as she shot even par on the front nine holes of the day. For the second day in a row Peng fired a 73, leaving her 9 over par for the event. Peng finished tied for 36th place.
Following Peng was senior Rica Tse in 39th place who carded a three-day total of 226. Tse shot four-straight pars on the front nine.
Having her best round of the event in Sunday's round, sophomore Ji Eun Baik shaved seven strokes off Saturday's round, carding a two-over-par 74. Baik shot three birdies, and finished one over par on the first nine holes.
Also having her best round of the event was Blaise Carabello who fired a four-over-par 76 Sunday. Carabello fired two birdies and shot one over par on the front nine.
The Bulldogs will now await their NCAA Championships destination, which they learn on April 17.
