MSU Women?s Golf Finishes First Round In Top 10
March 06, 2015 | Women's Golf
Hilton Head, S.C. – Despite a challenging day on the greens against the top teams in the country, the Mississippi State women's golf team still found a way to finish the opening round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate with a Top 10 card, as it fired a 16-over-par 300 to finish tied for ninth.
Southern California holds the lead after shooting 1-over-par.
“It was a challenging day, but we managed,” MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “This event has the field of an NCAA Championship. We expected the best. We are still not firing on all cylinders though, as we are having issues with putting. We are working hard to correct those problems and hopefully that will result in a better day (Saturday).”
Finding herself in a familiar place among the Top 20 was senior All-American Ally McDonald. The Fulton, Miss., native was the only Bulldog to land in the Top 20 after Friday's first round. Firing a 73, McDonald shot par on 10 of the 18 holes as she heads into Saturday's second round in 17th place.
Coming in second for MSU was sophomore Jessica Peng. Firing the most birdies on the team, Peng carded a 75 to finish tied for 35.
Starting the day off hot was senior Rica Tse, who finished one over in her first nine holes. Tse ended the day shooting a 76 and tied for 48th place.
Along with Tse, sophomore Ji Eun Baik finished tied for 48th. Baik fired a 38 on both the front and back nine, where she had one birdie.
Making her spring season début was Blaise Carabello, who posted an 83.
Mississippi State resumes play Saturday morning.
