
MSU Sets Record In Top 3 Finish In Second Round

Baton Rouge, La. – Under the leadership of two seniors, the Mississippi State women's golf team finish the second round of the LSU Tiger Classic in third place with a 285, the second-best team score since the University Club Course was renovated.
Host LSU, however, broke the record with a 280 to maintain first place with a two-day total of 577.
“I am incredibly proud of my team and Coach Phillips today. I took a day to go with my son on a recruiting visit,” coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “The team really rose to the occasion. That shows us that we work hard and train correctly at home.”
Leading Saturday's round were the two senior members. who are playing in their last regular-season tournament. Ally McDonald and Rica Tse both fired a 69 (-3), finishing tied for 12th and tied for seventh, respectively. McDonald battled up 23 spots from her Friday placing.
“Today was a really solid round on a tough course,” coach Leigh Phillips said. “ The leadership of our two seniors shooting in the 60's was just the spark we needed to go into the final round of the tournament Sunday.”
Adding to the list of players finishing Top 10 in Saturday's round is sophomore Jessica Peng. Leading the team for the second day in a row, Peng ended the day 1-under par and tied for fourth place coming in to Sunday's final round.
Carving three shots off of her Friday total was Sophomore Ji Eun Baik, completing the day with a 76, tied for 38th.
Blaise Carabello finished the front nine holes only 2-over par. Carabello fired an 82 scorecard.
Competing as an individual, Izel Pieters fired a 77, Tied for 44th.
MSU will resume action for the final round on Sunday.
