
Track & Field Sees Success On Day One Of NCAA Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - On day one of the track and field NCAA Indoor Championships, two Mississippi State athletes qualified for Saturday's finals.
On the track was Erica Bougard in the 60m hurdles. Bougard ran a time of 8.16 to finish seventh and qualify for the finals tomorrow. In the field, Bougard had a leap of 20-02.25 in the long jump to place ninth overall.
Representing MSU in the 800m run was junior Brandon McBride. McBride finished fifth with a time of 1:48.48 to qualify for tomorrow's finals.
Sophomore Rhianwedd Price ran a time of 4:36.39 in the mile run to qualify for finals, but due to a minor lane violation was disqualfied from the event.
“Everyone performed their best today,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “I am proud of everyone for getting to the championships. That alone is a major goal. We have very talented athletes at MSU. We have athletes competing again tomorrow and they need to come out and do their best.”
Day two of the NCAA Indoor Championships will resume tomorrow with Bougard competing in the pentathlon at 11:30 a.m., before competing in the finals of the 60m hurdles at 6:20 p.m. Also competing on day two will be senior Ebony Brinker in the triple jump at 6:00 p.m., and McBride in the 800m run finals at 7:30 p.m.
