
Track & Field Breaks School Records At SEC Indoor Championships

LEXINGTON, Ky., - Two Mississippi State track and field athletes broke school records on day one of the SEC Track and Field Indoor Championships in Lexington on Friday.
“I felt our athletes competed hard today,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “We had some very strong performances, but there is still a lot of work to be done tomorrow.”
After running a school record time of 8.03 in the 60m hurdles, senior Erica Bougard placed second to qualify for the finals on Saturday. Ste'yce McNeil ran a time of 8.43 to place 11th.
Bougard scored 4,376 points to finish second in the pentathlon. Placing first in the 60m hurdles, Bougard ran a time of 8.20 to earn 1,084 points. She then went on to place 11th in the high jump after clearing 5-05.25. With a personal-best throw of 40-00.75 in the shot put, Bougard finished seventh to earn 675 points. In the long jump, Bougard tallied a second-place showing with a leap of 20-02.25 before running a time of 2:13.44 in the 800m dash to place second.
In the pole vault, Sydney Rodkey also broke a school record after clearing 12-08.75 to finish 10th.
Sophomore Rhianwedd Price placed first in the mile run after running a time of 4:45.67. Price was followed by teammate Emma Neigel in 10th after running a time of 4:51.99. Both Price and Neigel qualified for the finals on Saturday.
Also in the mile run were junior Madison Milhoan (5:05.13) and freshman Mia Meydrich (5:06.34), who finished 21st and 22nd, respectively.
With a season-best time of 7.64, Euricka Hardy finished 27th in the 60m dash before running a time of 25.29 in the 200m dash to place 31st.
Three runners represented MSU in the 400m dash, Shayla Luckett (54.72), Ocian Archer (56.05) and Kimari Martin (57.12) placed 17th, 25th and 37th.
To finish the running events for day one, Cornelia Griesche ran a time of 9:41.54 to finish ninth in the 3000m run, while Carly Terp (10:39.28) finished 25th.
In the field, Bougard placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 20-03.75. Rochelle Farquharson (19-05.25) finished 13th while teammate Tiffany Flynn (19-01.25) placed 17th.
At the end of day one, MSU is No. 10 in the team scores.
Day two of the SEC Championships will resume Saturday with Flynn and Ebony Brinker in the triple jump at 11:30 a.m. CT.
