McDonald Paces Bulldogs Through First Round

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Mississippi Sate had to overcome more than a tough, elite field of teams Sunday in the opening round of the AllState Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate. It also had to fight through a stomach bug that made its way through the squad.
Still, despite the obstacles, the Bulldogs women's golf timed fired a 308 to finish 11th, two strokes behind Kansas at 10th.
“This was not our best day,” MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “Despite the stomach bug, we played with too much pressure on ourselves, and I really thought that hurt us.” MSU coach Ginger-Brown-Lemm Said. “We are better than our round today, and we will have to go out tomorrow and play a relentless round of golf. ”
The lone Bulldog in the Top 20 after one round was the senior All-American, Ally McDonald. The Fullton, Miss., native shot a 2-over 74 and is tied for 19. She finished the front nine at even par.
Sophomore Jessica Peng, who was hit the hardest with the stomach virus, recorded the second-best score for MSU, as she fired a 76. Having a rough start, Peng roared back to shave off eight strokes from her first nine holes.
Shooting only two strokes behind Peng was the senior Rica Tse, who has been a consistent member of the Bulldog team this season.
Sophomore Ji Eun Baik, and Junior Logan Chaney finished 2 strokes between each other, as Baik carded an 82.
In her fourth tournament this year, Chaney recorded a 40 on both the front and back for an 80.
Mississippi State resumes play Monday morning.
